Lonely college engineer here!
6'4", Red Head, 220 lbs, 10% body fat, 300 lbs bench press...
Used to play football, current college doesn't have a team. I miss it.  (American variety.)

Was that really necessary? You could have at least posted us a link to some half decent Norwegian Black Metal or Swedish Melodic Death Metal. Converge is just sub-par metalcore band from Salem, Massachusetts who thought they could gain notoriety by making a gruesome music video. A link to some of Behemoth's new music from The Apostasy, or some old Naglfar (yes, that is, in fact, the name of a Swedish band from the 90s) would have been perfectly acceptable. Both being good examples of blackened-death metal.
Of course if metalcore was your aim there are many good names to choose from: Trivium, Unearth, Atreyu, Killswitch, etc.
And no more of that Fergie stuff either please!

I cut the quote down to prevent quote spam. I was overly harsh. A foolish thing to do considering, being the metal snob that I am, I know how defensive we metal snobs get about our bands and genres.

I'm a Film Noir guy actually. The two genres share a similar dark, pessimistic world view, however I'm more of an existentialist so surrealism doesn't appeal to me.

This could be true, but the earliest album I have of theirs (yes I actually do have their music) is from 97. Besides, just because Twisted Sister is still playing doesn't mean its any good.

Something we certainly agree on. I may be a metal snob but I do try to listen to every sub-genre I can get my hands on. The selection I posted are all far more commercial bands of a similar ilk; a blatant attempt at trying to prove my metal cred by throwing some names out.  Very quickly spotted by you of course.
My personal preferences actually tend more towards classic heavy metal compositions and clean vocals. I don't really understand why cookie monster seems to be so angry all the time, or why a 200 bpm inverted doube bass is necessary. I just wish I had been born back in the days of Iron Maiden. Besides classic metal, I find that I have taken a great liking to the Gothic and Symphonic/Power Metal genres including Nightwish (before they fired Tarja) and Lacuna Coil. Metal + female vocals = awesome. I like it slower, heavier, and with epic vocals.

I'm not sure. The song came out like 97/98 if the tag on my mp3 is right but I don't know what album or anything. I only have a copy of that song from online.

All right, you caught me Anarchyyt. I was taking a cheap shot at you in an attempt to show off. I apologize. Unfortunately I was trying to nitpick on a band that I don't often listen to, in a sub-genre that I don't often listen to.
Must say though... now that I have played some of these tracks again, I can't help but notice their similarity to Dillinger Escape Plan who I do like... almost "Matchore" esque.
